An essay about the film “Hercule Poirot's Christmas”.

The film “Hercule Poirot's Christmas” was very interesting to watch, especially because I didn’t read a book completely. So I really wanted to find out who has killed old Mr. Simeon Lee. There are a lot of differences between the book and a film. For example, Pilar meets Harry in the train, instead of Stephen, Hercule Poirot comes to the house with Pilar and Harry, and so on. We even don’t see some characters who are written about in the book (Steven, David, Hilda). The end was rather expectable for me, because during the reading of a book I expected that Superintendent Sugden could commit murder. And an expose of murderer was the most exciting moment in the film for me. I think that this film\book have no special idea. It’s just a detective story. But I would recommended it to my friends!

You won't believe it!

 Hello my dear friends! Today I want to tell you what happened about a month ago in our town. It was a night. I was eating a sandwich when I realized that I was a vampire. I wanted to go out. "Whither are you going?"said my sister. "To cavern" I said. My sister had doubts about this idea, so I gave her a pipe of Amontillado. Six years ago our father hided it in my wardrobe. And I knew that a wine was a weak point of my sister. Right away she showed goodwill. I put a motley on hurriedly and ran out of the house. I took a taxi in oder to save time. I was as rampant as a serpent. When I sat in a car I suddenly saw a flagon of red wine near the driver. I thought that it was a sign and shot a glance at the driver. He was handsome guy with azure eyes and I felt he had a sweet blood. "Just what I want! It is a good luck to encounter him!" I said with a leer. A driver smiled constantly. And I looked forward my delicious meal. When a taxi stopped I wanted to hypnotize a driver, but he wanted to go with me because it was too dark and he couldn't to leave a girl in a forest. It was great! A victim came to me without my efforts! Cavern walls were moist and wreathed in mould. The cave was extensive and there were some serpents. A driver recoiled a few paces but his gait was steady. Unexpectedly he took his cloak off. And what did I see? I saw a big scar on his neck! I was bewildered. I perceive that... he was a vampire too. And he thought that I was his next victim. There was nothing to be done. Since then we hunt every night together.

The story was rather difficult for me, so I used sometimes a russian variant of this text.

The plot of the story is horrifying. It amazed me that a man is able to revenge on his enemy so violently and coolly. As a result the end of the story makes me sad. I thought that finally both of characters appear before readers as good and sympathetic personages, as it was in "Makes the whole world kin". I hoped that they have their own life story which can justify their cruelty. But the end was dreadful. Because of the fact, that we don't know what mutual relations between two men were before this incident in the cave, I can't say it was reasonable and justified act. A victim and an aggressor trade places. And among two personages there is no one I sympathize with. So this story was interesting to read but I waited for another end.

 "Makes the Whole World Kin"  is a really interesting story about two men who have the same illness. One of them is a burglar and another one is an ordinary citizen. Most of all I liked the main idea of the story that a common problem or disaster can unite different people. The title of the story confirms it. O.Henry tells the reader that there are things which "make the world kin". And I think it's an apt title for this story.

I liked also the way in which the author describes a burglar. This swindler belongs to the third type of burglars and it is interesting to understand what personality hides behind this particular type. 

The story is humorous, it makes you smile, especially when men discuss the rheumatism and medicine for it. I think that everyone will concur with me. 

History of USSR :)

My institute.

I am a student of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Its informal name is Phystech. It is a leading Russian university, originally established in the Soviet Union. It prepares specialists in theoretical and applied physics, applied mathematics, and related disciplines. The main MIPT campus is located in Dolgoprudny, a northern suburb of Moscow. However the Aeromechanics Faculty is based in Zhukovsky (my hometown), a suburb south-east of Moscow. On the picture below you can see the building of  The Department of Aeromechanics and Flight Engineering which is situated in my hometown Zhukovsky. I attend it almost every day. It is interesting to note that I live near my institute and a university campus. It takes me only 5 minutes to get to the institute, so I save a lot of time, being so close to it. As a result, I have much more time to study.

The word "phystech," without the capital P, is also used in Russian to refer to Phystech students and graduates. In MIPT I met a lot of interesting people from different parts of Russia and other countries. In our institute you can see students from Belorussia, Ukraine, Vietnam, Burma, France and India. All students are clever and friendly. And we spend a lot of time all together.
